Soulfood Casita was the perfect retreat. Very quite location yet close to all the great things you want to do in Santa Fe. Management was extremely helpful.
We enjoyed our stay a little outside of town. Quiet setting and relaxing! We were just a few minutes away from everything by car. We recommend this casita for those who would like to be away from the hustle and bustle of town.
A wonderful place to stay. It was easy to get into town, the hot tub was great, beds were comfy, great sunset view.
the junipers dotted the land scape and birds chirped continuously. Tastefully appointed interiors, a fluffy comfortable bed and high ceilings gave the casita a boutique hotel feel. We used the wireless internet and it worked great. The kitchen was very functional. There was not a working fan in the Casita, but it was not to hot so it was not a problem. The TV reception was fuzzy but we just read a lot and watched TV on line on the lap top. Over all it was a great experience for us. We would definitely go back.
Great spot! lovely views; house needs some fixin' - burners on stove; remote to watch large - DVD; new front door blinds... place was very comfortable; private! great sound system too!
Washer didn't work. Hot tub dirty. Loved the location and heated floors
My wife and I couldn't have been happier with these accommodations. Neither of us had seen pictures online, but it's a cute little guesthouse. The bed was plush, the tub was a jacuzzi, and the hot tub warm after a long day hiking and hanging out in downtown Santa Fe. We prepared a few meals at the casita. We had no problems finding everything we needed to cook out on the grill. 4 nights was not long enough in this little gem!
We spent the month of August here and I can't imagine a better vacation spot! The location was perfect: great views, awesome starry skies, and perfect peace. The Casita was clean and in good shape. Like any home, there were little things that could be fixed, but I can say that about my house! As we were there a month, we had the opportunity to cook many meals there. The kitchen had all the basics and the gas grill worked great. The clothes dryer is pretty weak, but the washing machine worked fine, after we got a hint on how to latch the door from Shalimar. Gordy was his usual friendly, helpful self and Shalimar was prompt when we needed things. The Casita is convenient to Santa Fe and we found a few back roads that became short cuts to Zafarano and other spots along busy Carrillos Rd. We even had the opportunity to enjoy hearing Gordy and his band at a local restaurant/lounge. All-in-all, we had a delightful month at Soulfood and look forward to spending more time there whenever we go to Santa Fe.
We spent a long weekend at the Soulfood Casita. It was everything we thought it would be and more. Beautiful modern place, with a southwest feel. Great house, great location, great views... We plan to spend a lot of time there in the future! Can't wait until the next time.
This was truly a memorable experience for my wife and me. Everything was magnificent, from the view to the ease of access to the hospitality of the staff. We'll definitely make this our first place of choice to stay when we're in Santa Fe. If you want a truly great experience, I wholeheartedly recommend these casitas!
Quaint adobe casita overlooking the hills and mountains on the horizon. Enjoy bar-b-q-ing, hot tubbing and the most gorgeous sunsets. Close to the Plaza but in a natural surrounding. The best of both worlds. Enjoy soothing CDs by Gordon Free in front of the fireplace! A true New Mexico experience!
This beautiful property is on a dirt road in the east hills of Santa Fe overlooking the desert west of town, while still just minutes to the plaza. The quiet is soothing and the view west from the seating area outside the great room brings huge sky and huge sunsets every night. We stayed home with takeout several nights just to watch the sun set. The casita is bright and modern with all necessary details and a skylight in the shower. You'll enjoy your rest here and come back soon, as will we.
The property was very comfortable, but visitors to Santa Fe must be aware that most of the properties do not have air conditioning or a swamp cooler. Keeping the casita cool was a problem. The bed is a double with a queen frame, which causes a considerable amount of swearing when hitting shins on the points sticking out. Ditto for the toilet roll holder, as it stuck out and banged the right elbow. Otherwise lovely
We had a fantastic stay at the Soulfood casita. Beautiful location, private, peaceful and about 5 mins from the Plaza. Can't wait to return to Santa Fe's great food, art, weather, and friendly locals. The perfect long week-end escape.
We really enjoyed our stay here. It was very quiet and serene but still close enough to town without having to pull out the map every time. My only complaint is the bed was so uncomfortable I never got any sleep. All other amenities couldn't have been any nicer. I wish we could have transported the whole house back to my own home town.
I loved this place!
This was a very pleasant and not so small outbuilding from the main house. Ideal for two people but could probably take one or two more if pushed. Nice decor and fittings. Beautiful views - and one or two beautiful sunsets. A little outside town (requires transport). We had an extremely enjoyable stay - just right for Santa Fe. It was a pity that we were working so hard that we didn't manage to take advantage of the hottub, swimming pool, or barbeque.
Close by main house but kids loved being on their own - not for too young as it has full kitchen, utensils, etc.
This was our first time to Santa Fe were pleasantly suprised by several points of this property:*Conveniently located near downtown*Exceptionally Clean*Beautiful View*So close to the ski area (Ski Santa Fe)Everything was great. Only a couple of notes for improvement:*The bathtub did not drain well*If the combo washer/dryer worked, it would have been convenient.Overall, a 10. Will visit again. Thank you for everything!!DK
We arrived in time to get a heap of snow piled on Santa Fe. We needed help in getting out of the driveway and it was there in good time - also immediate response to a request for snow shovels (just in case more came down). Also, there was a slow down with the toilet and again, the response was quick and continued through our complete satisfaction! There are some signs of inattention to details which can be remedied quickly, if the owner desires - cobwebs very visible and lack of knobs on the stove, a cracked cup, very few forks and cutlery that is in real need of sharpening, couch needs help and dining chairs and table are wobley. These small things would make this PERFECT. It is warm, open, great colors, wonderful fireplace and perfect views!
Cozy location for my small family. Cute and comfortable furniture and a great design. Lots of windows and good light. The pictures make the outside look a little more remote than it is, but still a great place to stay. The washing machine doesn't work, and one outlet on the kitchen counter is on the fritz. But I would stay here again and recommend it to a friend. Plus, the owner is dog-friendly, so we had a nice time with our pets.
The washer/dryer did not work. The door seemed to be missing a part or seal.
management has dropped ball on maintenance in several areas. Blinds don't work. Washer/dryer broken, no clothes hangars in closet, no dish towels, TV remote didn't work, CD cases empty lacking the great music should have been there, kitchen utensils and serving dishes lacking, coffee maker had problelm, barbeque didn't have gas or tools. These are easily fixable things and feel management should be aware if they are going to have repeat visitors. We loved our time in Santa Fe and look forward to the next visit.
The Casita was very nice and convenient to town. We appreciated that the drive was shoveled from snow. It was a little frustrating that there was no remote for the bedroom tv. No instructions other than password for the internet. The massage chair was not working and the jets in the tub didn't work or at least there was no instructions. Otherwise our stay was very enjoyable.
Perfect for two people with pets. Privacy and luxury. Only 10 minutes from the center of town. Great experience.
My husband and I liked the quiet yet convenient location, and the casita was so spacious it felt more like a house. There were a few problems, though. The fireplace refused to burn, no matter how long one fussed with it. My husband grew very impatient with it after spending over 1/2 hour each evening trying to get a few pieces of wood to burn in it (he's a seasoned camper and knows how to start a fire). Also, it would have been nice if a roll of paper towels had been supplied in the kitchen. There also was no way to wipe down the counters, etc. (a sponge would have been nice), and more dishes are needed. The unit could have been given a little more attention to detail overall; other than that, it was a good value for the money.
Shalimar was a great help and very prompt. That is great property management team very helpful with any questions or needs. The casita is nice but I would suggest a few things be repaired, master bed needs to be on a more stable frame and someone took the TV's remote control. Loved the shower though! Overall the casita was perfect for our needs. Thanks
Staying outside of town was peaceful and quiet. I would definitely stay in a casita rather than a hotel room. The casita was well appointed and comfortable. Great views from the hot tub, too!
Though we enjoyed our time in Santa Fe and loved the location, the Soulfood Casita was not as we were led to believe. The description (and pix) lead you to believe that you will be on a private 1 acre lot with your own hottub. Unfortunately you share that lot (and hottub) with the main casa rental immediately next door. The place itself was newer, but many things were broken -broken/missing knobs on the stove, unlockable windows (because the locks were broken), no promised blender, a dryer that took forever to dry and wifi that had a very low signal. Initially the TV also had very bad reception, but the caretaker fixed that fairly quickly. When we first arrived the home was dirty (lots of dog hair on the floor) and dirty towels in the bathroom. We were worried that the sheets were also dirty, so we washed them ourselves. The caretaker did respond fairly quickly to our request for clean towels, but we still couldn't help but wonder what else wasn't clean. We enjoyed our stay because we decided to make the best of it and it was located in a great spot and the views (day and night) were wonderful.
My friend and I rented this casita for a four day stay. I have stayed in other casitas in Santa Fe before and have been overall very happy with the lodgings. When I rented this casita and spoke to the property manager he told me it was about a 20 minute walk to the plaza. it isn't walkable unless you want a good bit of exercise- more like 45 minutes. We got there a little early just to see where it was. It wasn't ready yet. The manager/owner said it would be ready later. Even though there is a 4 pm check-in they tell you they can have up to an additional six hours to clean which is absolutely absurd! When you are coming a long ways to visit the last thing you want to do is check in at 10 pm. Anyway, we arrived around 9 pm and it had been cleaned but not real well. There were animal crackers all behind the toaster oven on the counter. There was old food in a pot left in the refrigerator I had to clean. The dining table was sticky. There was no top sheet on the extra bed, just a blanket. There was no extra blankets or bedding in the home which it said there would be on the welcoming card. We woke up the next morning wanting some coffee and found the coffee pot to be broken. You had to push down the top and jack up the bottom of the pot and stand there like that to get it to brew which was aggravating. There was one drinking glass and no wine glasses. There were some cups and plates though. I had to contact the owner when the fuse box alarm (I guess that's what it was) started buzzing loudly and would not go off. He sounded less than happy to hear from me and was rather short but told me how to turn it off. It was a nice location out of town if you want quiet and the beds were comfortable, but I probably would not stay at any of this owner's properties again. I have had much better amenities and a cleaner place for the same money or less in Santa Fe.
We waited more than two hours to check in. The dryer was stuffed with damp laundry. The washer was full of wet linens. The bed in the casita was broken and the washer dryer was not working. The owner had a problem with his cleaning people but did not make sure that the house was ready for us. This was not a very professional presentation. Outside work was going on during our stay. We liked the location and especially the sunsets but not all the house flys!
Screens on doors and windows would have been appreciated to take advantage of the cool nights. Casita tub did not drain well. We couldn't get tv to work (dvd worked fine). Overall enjoyed the stay.
This accommodation is lovely except that the owners do not maintain it. Broken kitchen faucet, 2 knobs on stove missing, no control for TV/DVD, Dishes and pans all had to be washed, Bed pillows stained with no sanitary covers, One dish towel for a week, privacy blinds dirty and in ill repair, weeds in the side yard with only sand and no landscaping, broken chairs you could not sit in. All of this and I spent 3 hours cleaning the place before we felt comfortable. The space is sweet and designed well. It could have been wonderful. The owners need to think about what most travelers are looking for; clean accommodations that are maintained well. I forgot, the bathtub/shower did not drain well at all. (even after they tried to repair it). Hopefully the owners will accept this review as a heads up! this is lovely property that deserves to be taken care of.
We were very unhappy with the condition and cleanliness of this place. Chairs broken, dirty linens, dirty dishes, oven, moldy washer, smoke detectors were pulled out, and missing or broken screens. The manager said he would reimburse the cleaning fee, but didn't. Although the location was nice, it was just poorly maintained.
This is a nice little bungalow about five minutes from the Santa Fe plaza and 30 - 40 minutes from the slopes. Unfortunately several important things were overlooked by the staff that caused a lot of irritation for me and my girlfriend. First off, the bed frame was broken, such that the half the bed was tilted towards the floor. It was obvious management knew about it, because I could see where they had tried to glue it back together and then just put a rock under the box springs to hold them up instead. When I called the manager about this, he said he was out of town and couldn't help me, so my only option was to disassemble the entire bed and frame myself, then put the frame outside and let the mattress sit on the floor! The house would get well above 80 degrees during the day, and the only way to cool it is to open doors and windows. None of this was explained to us before we got there. In fact nobody met as at the condo. We got an entry code with the rental agreement and nothing else. I tried calling the manager many times to ask about early check-in, the broken bed, the hot house, and five or six other problems. He would only answer after calling several times in a row, and he never returned calls or made good on his promise to drop by and talk about our problems in person. The DVD player remote was missing which made the player barely usable. The path from the car to the house and from the house to the hot-tub was unpaved and muddy. It's really a shame that we had such a bad time, because the house is really very pretty and tastefully furnished. This place would be great with some decent management, information, and attention to important details.
